First identified in the original TIF-97 plan, the Downtown Development Authority sought the perfect location for a civic square downtown. In 2020, the DDA purchased the site at the corner of State and Union from TCF Bank for $1.75 million with the support of grants from Rotary Charities and the State of Michigan. Designs for the future of Rotary Square are currently underway.

Since 2020, Rotary Square has hosted a variety of community events, including the Detroit Lions’ We Want More Tour, a Traverse City Philharmonic concert, an MSU vs. U of M tailgate, National Cherry Festival events, art fairs, rallies, and more.

If you are interested in staging an event at Rotary Square, please review our use policy and contact to apply.
